Directory in Spain

In Spain, the official working language status is called the Spanish language. The standard dialect of Spanish is called Castellano, but many other regional dialects of Spanish are also heard in all the various parts of the country. They consist of the lan, Valenciano, Gallego, and Asturiano dialects and then there is also the Basque language spoken in the northeast mountains of Spain, which is an unrelated language isolate. Basque or Euskara is very ancient, and is believed to have been spoken in the Iberian Peninsula long before the arrival of the Romans, who brought the Latin tongue to Spain, or as they called it Hispania.

Many cities in Spain claim to be very old, such as Tarragona, Amposto, Toledo, Merida, Toledo, Navia, Noia, Sagunto, and Granada. These cities have legendary histories stretching back more than 4000 years ago, even before the days of Hercules, for whom the famous pillars, supposedly somewhere near the southern tip of Spain, were named. Many different peoples are said to have subjected all or parts of Spain after that, such as the Celtiberians, the Phoenicians, the Visigoths, and the Moors.
